Mo-ped crash hurts 55-year-old rider
A 55-year-old man was taken to the hospital in critical condition at about 6:40 Friday night after a mo-ped crash near Mekia and Poalima streets in Waimanalo.
The man was not wearing a helmet when he lost control going over a speed bump at a slow rate of speed, according to emergency dispatch reports.
He rolled on the street three times and was not fully responsive when paramedics arrived, the reports said. The man was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center with head injuries.
Hit-and-run driver injures 3-year-old
Police were searching for the driver of a truck that hit and injured a 3-year-old boy Friday night in Waipahu and then fled.
The crash happened in the 94-0850 block of Kaaholo Street at about 6:45 p.m.
The boy’s family heard a thud and noticed the boy was on the ground, according to emergency dispatch reports.
Police said the truck proceeded toward Waipahu Street and was later located, but officers were still looking for the driver.
Paramedics took the boy in serious condition to the Queen’s Medical Center.

Hiker carried on stretcher
Firefighters rescued an injured hiker Friday from the Pihea Trail in Kokee, Kauai.
At about 1:30 p.m. the hiker, a 47-year-old woman from New York, was less than a mile into the trail when she slipped and dislocated her left knee.
Firefighters responded and carried the woman out on a stretcher. She drove herself to a hospital for more treatment, a Kauai County news release said.
