Lau wins surf contest in El Salvador
Hawaii surfer Ezekiel Lau defeated Australia’s Mitch Crews to win the Copa Quiksilver El Salvador on Sunday.
Lau posted a score of 17.30 against Crews’ 15.73 in the final of the event held at La Libertad, El Salvador. Lau reached the final by edging Damien Fahrenfort in the semifinals 12.46 to 10.57. Crews defeated Hawaii’s Shane Beschen in the other semifinal.
Baseball camps begin next week
Registration is ongoing for the 2011 Hawaii baseball summer camps, July 16-24.
Two-day camps focusing on pitching, catching, hitting and infield defense are available for $100, and a special all-day camp July 18-21 from 9 to 4 p.m. is available for $375.
The camps are run by Hawaii coach Mike Trapasso and his staff. Trapasso led the Rainbows to a Western Athletic Conference tournament title in 2010 and a share of the regular-season WAC championship this year.
