Maui police search for apparent military projectile missing from secured site
Maui police are looking for a possible military projectile that disappeared Sunday from a secured area.
Police were notified of then device at a Hapapa Road home in Kula about 10 a.m. Saturday, police said.
Officers found the device, which appeared to be a military-type projectile, but it was not positively identified as live ordnance.
The area was secured and residents were advised of the situation.
Police and an Army explosive ordnance disposal team returned to the site about noon Sunday and found the device was missing. Authorities searched the area, but couldn’t find the apparatus, police said.
