HPD officer injured during traffic stop, driver arrested following day

A Honolulu police officer injured his right hand during a traffic stop in Wahiawa when the driver allegedly drove away, trapping the officer’s hand in the driver’s side window, police said.

The 40-year-old, male driver was arrested Saturday on suspicion of first-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, misuse of 911 services, and for an outstanding retake warrant, police said.

The traffic stop occurred at 7:30 a.m. Friday when the unidentified officer discovered that the driver allegedly had a retake warrant, police said.

The officer tried to arrest the driver, who allegedly accelerated forward, trapping the officer’s right hand in the window opening, police said.

The suspect drove off, but Crime Reduction Unit officers from District Two arrested him in Wahiawa on Saturday, police said.
