Hawaii girls finish second in Nevada

Hawaii finished tied for second at the Girls Junior America’s Cup on Thursday at Genoa Lakes Golf Club and Resort in Genoa, Nev.

Hawaii, the defending champion, finished tied with Oregon with a three-day total of 656, which was 16 strokes behind Northern California.

Hawaii’s Eimi Koga finished fourth at 2-under-par 214, which was five strokes behind the winner. Other Hawaii golfers were Marissa Chow (tied 8th; 218 total), Kacie Komoto (T21, 224) and Margaret Min (T36, 231).

» Hawaii moved up one spot into a tie for seventh after the second round of the Boys Junior America’s Cup on Thursday at Hiwan Golf Club in Evergreen, Colo.

Northern California leads the 17-team tournament at 7 over par. Hawaii and Alberta are at 27 over.

Hawaii’s top golfer is Aiea’s Seung Jae Maeng, who is seven strokes off the lead at 6-over 146.

Soccer tournament tickets on sale Monday

Tickets for the Hawaiian Islands Invitational men’s soccer tournament go on sale Monday.

The four-team event is Feb. 23 and 25 at Aloha Stadium.

On Feb. 23, Incheon United FC (South Korea) will play Melbourne Heart FC (Australia) at 6 p.m. and Yokohama FC (Japan) will face the Colorado Rapids (MLS) at 8:30 p.m.

On Feb. 25, the consolation game will be at 5 p.m. with the championship at 7:30 p.m.

Ticket prices range from $10 to $40, with two-day packages available for $20 to $60.

Jabour surfs to ASP victory in Mexico

Kiron Jabour won the ASP 4-Star Quiksilver Pro Puerto Escondido (Oaxaca, Mexico) on Thursday, beating three other Hawaii surfers in the final.

Jabour, of the North Shore, had a two-wave total of 16.5 in the final, which included Honolulu’s Ezekiel Lau (15.5), and Maui’s Billy Kemper (6.67) and Clay Marzo (5.5).

Three Hawaii boxing champions will compete in the USA Boxing Junior Olympics beginning Saturday in Mobile, Ala.

Justly Laquihone of Kawano Boxing Club will fight at 119 pounds, Kawano’s Mason Cornello at 125 and Keran Rosas from the Big Island’s A.P. Boxing Club at 138.

Competition runs through Aug. 7 and is being held in conjunction with the U.S. Olympic Trials.

Registration is open for the inaugural Sea to Stars cycling expedition, a 49-mile ride from the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel to Mauna Kea scheduled for Aug. 13,

The ride, billed as the hardest hill climb in the world, reaches the 9,300-foot elevation level with grades up 17 percent.

Adidas will sponsor Honolulu Marathon

Adidas will become the Honolulu Marathon’s official supporting sponsor for sportswear and shoes, race president Dr. Jim Barahal announced Thursday.

The deal will include all finisher and walk shirts, and official race merchandise.

Terms of the deal were not annouced.
