A family of tourists escaped injury today when the rental Jeep in which they were riding caught fire on a dirt road in Wailua Homesteads on Kauai.

The visitors had just crossed the Wailua Stream off Loop Road when the vehicle’s engine burst into flames, causing the rest of the vehicle to catch fire. The driver and three passengers were able to get out without injury.

Kauai Fire Department personnel responded to the 1:03 p.m. call and fully extinguished the fire in less than an hour.
