The man whose body was found in the Ala Wai Canal Saturday morning has been identified by the city Medical Examiner’s Office as William Houseworth, 26, of Jackson, Miss.

But coroners have deferred the cause and manner of his death pending further investigation.

Honolulu firefighters retrieved Houseworth’s lifeless body from the canal near Paoakalani Avenue about 20 to 30 feet off the side of the canal.

Police are investigating the case as an unattended death.
