Repairs finished to water main along Farrington Highway

Board of Water Supply crews have completed repair of the 24-inch water main that broke on Saturday but officials are asking Leeward Coast residents to continue to conserve water until further notice to allow area reservoirs to return to their normal capacities.

Water service has been restored to Kahe Power Plant and 15 nearby residences after the main broke on Farrington Highway.

The Board of Water Supply asks that water use be limited to priority needs such as cooking, drinking and personal hygiene.

A BWS spokesperson said it typically takes about a day for a water system to return to normal function following such repair work.

On Saturday, the board asked residents from Honokai Hale in Makakilo to Makaha to please use water sparingly and only for priority needs until further notice, after a water main broke in the morning.

The break was on a transmission main that provides the Leeward Coast with about 60 percent of its water supply.
