Suspect sought in fatal beating at bus stop
Police are looking for a male suspect about 20 years old in the fatal assault on a man Aug. 5 at a Liliha bus stop.
The victim, identified by the Medical Examiner’s Office as John Abiley Jr., 64, of Honolulu, died Thursday from blunt force injuries to his head. Police have reclassified the case from assault to second-degree murder.
The suspect is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds, police said. Police said he allegedly punched and kicked Abiley in the face and body several times. Anyone with information is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
Woman dies after being found in pool
A 45-year-old woman found unconscious in a Kahala swimming pool died Friday.
Police said a family member found the woman unresponsive at about 5 p.m. Friday, and efforts to revive her failed.
The woman was taken by ambulance in critical condition to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
There were no signs of foul play, police said.
Woman turns gun on herself at gun club
Police said a 30-year-old woman who was critically injured at a Waikiki indoor shooting range Friday evening died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The woman was shooting targets at a Waikiki gun club when she turned the firearm on herself, police said. She was taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
The shooting occurred at 6:48 p.m. Friday at SWAT Gun Club at 2266 Kuhio Ave.
Gunman on the loose after Puna shooting
Hawaii County police are asking for the public’s help in finding a man wanted in connection with a shooting that injured a man Thursday night in Puna.
Police said a 26-year-old man with no permanent address was taken to the Pahoa fire station late Thursday night with a gunshot to his lower body and a grazing wound to his head. He was transferred to Hilo Medical Center, where he was treated and released.
Police had received reports of an argument and gunshots at a Waa Waa-area address.
Police said they are seeking Maurice Hackett, 34, who has no permanent address but frequents the Waa Waa area. He is 6 feet tall and 180 pounds, with brown eyes, a beard and black hair worn in dreadlocks. He might be driving a white rented van with no side windows.
Police said Hackett is considered armed and dangerous and caution the public not to approach him. Police have opened an attempted-murder case.
