Police arrested a 17-year-old boy today in connection with the beating death of a man at a Liliha Street bus stop.

Witnesses identified the teen, and he was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder. He was released pending investigation.

John Abiliey Jr., 64, died Thursday after being assaulted at a bus stop near the School Street intersection about 6:40 p.m. Aug. 5.

The city Department of the Medical Examiner said Abiley’s death was a homicide and that he died of blunt force injuries to his head.

Police said Abiley was sitting at the bus stop when a male approached him and began punching and kicking him several times to the face and body. Witnesses scared off the suspect, and he fled on foot, police said. It is unclear if the victim and the assailant knew each other.
