2 Hawaii lawmakers to serve on national panels

Two Hawaii legislators have been elected to serve in positions for the National Conference of State Legislatures.

Rep. Pono Chong (D, Maunawili-Kaneohe) was chosen by lawmakers from across the country to serve on the 2011-2012 NCSL Executive Committee, and Rep. Marilyn Lee (D, Mililani, Mililani Mauka) was picked as president of the executive board of the NCSL’s Women’s Legislative Network.

The NCSL Executive Committee is the organization’s 63-member governing body, which supervises and controls its affairs, committees, finances and policies.

The Women’s Legislative Network represents the 1,739 women serving in state legislatures across the country. It promotes participation, empowerment and leadership of women lawmakers.

The NCSL is a bipartisan organization providing lawmakers with research, technical assistance and opportunities to exchange ideas.
