Fight over wave leads to surfer’s arrest for alleged surfboard theft
A surfer was arrested Thursday evening after an argument over a wave led to threats and the theft of a surfboard, Honolulu police said.
Police said two surfers argued after colliding while riding the same wave off Ala Moana Beach Park at 5:30 p.m. One surfer, a 24-year-old Kailua man, threatened the other, a 31-year-old man, and took his surfboard in retaliation because the suspect’s board was damaged, according to a police report.
The victim called police who waited for the suspect to paddle ashore. The Kailua man was arrested for second-degree robbery and released pending investigation.
