UH basketball team falls to Trians in Asia finale
OSAKA, Japan >> The Hawaii men’s basketball team got off to a slow start and never recovered in a 94-70 exhibition loss to the Panasonic Trians of the Japan Basketball League on Saturday afternoon.
The swift Trians, one of the best JBL teams in recent seasons, established a double-digit lead early in the second quarter and protected it by running off UH mistakes at every opportunity. Fatigue was evident for the Rainbow Warriors, who ended their two-week Warriors to Asia tour with a 3-2 record against professional teams in China and Japan.
Former Virginia Tech player Adrian “Ace” Custis, one of two Americans playing for the JBL team, paced the Trians with 25 points. Forward Joston Thomas scored a team-high 17 points for the Rainbow Warriors, while point guard Shaquille Stokes added 15.
Guard Brandon Jawato and swingman Hauns Brereton each scored all of their 11 points in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to trim the Trians’ lead below 20 in the fourth quarter.
