Photo site puts your mug on the front page
Look Mom, I’m on the cover of Vogue!
Just kidding.
Photofunia.com makes it easy to manipulate, enhance and enliven the boring photos we share with friends and family on Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites. Just choose one of 218 effects that allow you to transpose your head on another body or piece of artwork, or insert yourself into a painting in the Tate Modern or National Art Gallery, a street poster, or a photo with Robert Pattinson. (The latter ill-advised unless you have perfect skin and bone structure.)
Depending on how many photos you’ve taken of yourself, friends and family, Photofunia — true to it’s name — offers hours of free fun!

Colorful throw rugs buoy an ocean theme
Stoke your little surfer’s imagination with a life-sized surfboard-shaped throw rug from Kahala Kids. The rugs come in a variety of colors and patterns. Or enhance an ocean theme with a honu rug. The rugs, made by KC Hawaii, are $29.99 for a turtle and $35.99 to $59.99 for a surfboard. Kahala Kids is in Kahala Mall; call 737-6200.

‘Baby’ pineapples prove to be cheap, sweet treat
Those Kunia-grown “baby” pineapples with the distinctive blue and gold Hawaiian Crown “Sweet Gold” labels are back this summer and in bigger quantities. The flavor of this low-acid variety is so intensely sweet it’s like eating pineapple candy! And at $1 to $2 apiece at Foodland, Sack N Save and select farmers markets, you can buy a few, cut them up, and throw some in the freezer for the holidays.

Chocolate-covered bliss awaits at Neiman Marcus
When I take friends and family to lunch at Mariposa at Neiman Marcus, I stop at the candy department on the third floor to pick up some Neiman Marcus Chocolate Potato Chips, coated with either milk, dark or white chocolate, for $19 a canister or $55 for a three-pack. Even better are the Neiman Marcus Twists, a corn chip (think Bugles) dipped in white chocolate and drizzled with milk chocolate … mmm! They are great as a hostess, holiday or birthday gift. Neiman Marcus is at Ala Moana Center; call 951-8887.

Virtual music room has fun beat
As a music lover who’s a bit tired of the usual pop radio scene, I’ve fallen in love with turntable.fm. You can select from a list of genres from trance to indie pop to ’80s, and hop into a room. Once there, your avatar is in a crowd listening to the music played by a team of rotating DJs. If you like the song, you can click the “awesome” button and your avatar’s head begins to bob along to the beat. Just sit back and enjoy the groove, or get up and take your turn at the DJ booth.
Turntable allows you to meet up with like-minded strangers online to chat about music, spin new bands and hear obscure tracks. Just one catch: To get on the website, you need an invite from someone who is already a member. But if you sign in with your Facebook ID, the site will automatically search your contacts. If just one of your Facebook friends is registered with the site, you’re automatically in.
