Hilo moves to 4-0 at Senior Little League
Hilo capped a perfect 4-0 record in pool play with a 7-1 victory over Midland (Mich.) on Thursday in the Little League Senior Division (ages 15-16) World Series in Bangor, Maine.
Chayce Kaaua went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and four pitchers combined on a four-hitter as Hilo advanced to the semifinals today at 7 a.m. against Giuila, Italy, which finished 3-1 in Pool A.
Jarett Kitaoka tossed three hitless innings with two walks and a strikeout to earn the win.
Tyler (Texas) will play San Nicholas, Aruba in the other semifinal at 4 a.m., with the championship scheduled for 8 a.m. on Saturday. It will be televised on ESPNU (Oceanic Dig. 219).
Komoto wins in North Carolina
Punahou junior Kacie Komoto captured the Webb Simpson Junior Championship Thursday, winning by two shots. The 54-hole tournament, conducted by the American Junior Golf Association, was played at Tanglewood Park’s Championship Course in Clemmons, N.C.
Komoto was in a four-way tie for first heading into the final round. She shot 1-over-par 71 to beat Washington’s Jordan Ferreira. Komoto’s three-day score was 9-over-par 219.
It was her second AJGA event, and first win. The field had 72 males and 24 females, ages 12-18, from 20 states and six countries.
Ma leads by one stroke at Oahu C.C.
Matt Ma fired a 5-under-par 66 in Thursday’s opening round of the OCC Men’s Invitational, at Oahu Country Club.
Ma leads 2009 champion Lorens Chan by one shot going into today’s second round. Skye Inakoshi is two back.
Paul Kimura leads Gary Kong by one shot in the Senior Flight after shooting 71. Kimura is seventh overall.
