About 30 firefighters battled a brush fire on the North Shore that has closed Paalaa Road, but threatened no property today.

The fire broke out about 1:45 p.m. on the mauka side of Haleiwa Road near Paalaa Road, said Honolulu Fire Capt. Terry Seelig. Six engines, two water tankers and a helicopter responded to the blaze.

Police closed Paalaa, which was blocked by fire engines as firefighters searched for a way to establish a fire break.

The blaze was near where a 10-acre brush fire burned part of a noni tree farm on Aug. 15.

Last week, a third brush fire in the area destroyed a small homeless encampment, burned about 12 acres, and forced the evacuation of Haleiwa Elementary. Fire investigators determined that fire was intentionally set.
