Continental cancels Honolulu-Newark flight tonight due to Hurricane Irene
Continental Airlines has canceled its nonstop Honolulu-Newark, N.J., flight tonight as Hurricane Irene approaches the East Coast, according to Hawaii Department of Transportation spokesman Dan Meisenzahl.
Flight No. 14 was due to depart at 7:50 p.m. He had no information on the number of passengers affected.
All Newark-Honolulu flights going both directions Saturday and Sunday also have been canceled, according to United Continental spokesman Mike Trevino.
Due to the potential impact of the hurricane on air travel, the Hawaii Tourism Authority recommends that all eastbound visitors scheduled to return to or travel through the mainland this weekend contact their airlines or travel agent to reconfirm flights prior to departing for the airport.
If there is a need for people to extend their stay, they are being encouraged to work directly with their hotel.
