Bike study closes Waialae Avenue lane
One lane of Waialae Avenue between Old Waialae Road and 11th Avenue will be closed through Thursday as part of a traffic study of bicycle lanes, city officials said.
The city is trying to determine the effects of changing a lane to one for bicycles.
Wayne Yoshioka, director of the city Department of Transportation Services, said the lane closing that began Tuesday created some initial confusion but is expected to subside as time goes by.
The regular Koko Head-bound contra-flow of traffic during the afternoon rush hour will not occur during the study period.
25 affordable homes pegged for Maili
The city and Habitat for Humanity are teaming up to build 25 affordable homes in Maili.
The homes are being built on more than three acres that Habitat for Humanity bought with $900,000 the city provided through a Community Development Block Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The single-family homes will have two, three or four bedrooms.
The city said Monday the units will be sold to families whose annual income is no more than 50 percent of the city’s median income level.
Acting Mayor Douglas Chin participated in a groundbreaking ceremony for the project on Saturday.
