The Gandhi International Institute for Peace is celebrating the 142nd birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, a worldwide pioneer of resistance through nonviolent civil disobedience.
The sixth annual celebration from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 2 will take place in front of the Gandhi statue at the corner of Kapahulu and Kalakaua avenues. The event includes an interfaith discussion for world peace, multicultural dances and music by the Royal Hawaiian Band.
Raj Kumar, institute president, suggests participants wear white, comfortable attire and bring sitting mats or chairs. Contact Kumar at cosmicyoga@yahoo.com or go to www.gandhianpeace.com.
