A horseback rider went to the hospital Wednesday after her horse rolled on her when he tumbled down a slope in Waimanalo.

The woman, in her late 40s, was riding the horse on the equestrian Waimanalo Ditch Trail when she apparently left the trail about 5:20 p.m., said Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig. The horse fell down on a slope that declines about six feet over a distance of about 20 feet alongside the trail.

“The horse and she went down this ditch and the horse apparently rolled on her,” Seelig said. “She was hurt.”

Another person called firefighters for help after the woman’s 20-foot tumble.

Firefighters hiked to the woman, prepared her for transport, and a fire helicopter picked her up in a basket. She was transferred to paramedics, who took her to the hospital in stable condition, an Emergency Medical Services spokesman said. The condition of the horse was not available.
