Boy’s body found in Waianae stream
The body of a 17-year-old boy was found late Tuesday night in a stream behind a Taco Bell on Farrington Highway in Waianae, police said Wednesday.
The teen might have fallen down a 15-foot concrete embankment into Kaupuni Stream behind the fast-food restaurant at 85-752 Farrington Highway about 10:10 p.m., according to police.
The boy was identified as Brian Reian of Waianae, said the city medical examiner.
Police said they do not suspect foul play and that alcohol may have been a factor in his death.
Blazes blacken land in Kailua, Makua
Firefighters battled a brush fire that burned about 2 acres near Kuuna Street in the Keolu Hills area of Kailua.
Eight fire companies and a helicopter responded to the fire, which began at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
"The fire is not directly threatening homes," fire Capt. Terry Seelig said about 5 p.m.
The area is steep and difficult to reach, with lots of dry brush, Seelig said.
Earlier, a fire started by workers who detonated unexploded ordnance burned an estimated 100 acres of the Army’s Makua Valley training range.
The fire was contained about 4 p.m. No threatened or endangered species or Native Hawaiian cultural sites were affected, the Army said.
