A Honolulu fire chief, captain and a civilian have been honored as the department’s top employees.

Battalion Chief Dave Takehara is the department’s manager of the year. He is assigned to fire operations and provides administrative support for rural divisions. He is recognized for being the driving force behind the All-Hazards Incident Management Team training and coordinating the department’s first Basic Urban Search and Rescue Awareness training.

Fire Capt. Debbi Eleneki is the uniformed employee of the year. She manages fire-fighting apparatus and equipment purchasing programs. She’s the department’s first female firefighter and fire captain.

Gloria Lum is the civilian employee of the year. She developed a tracking program to keep the department current with utility payments and vendor invoice purchasing.

They were recognized at a luncheon Friday.
