Five people were injured Tuesday in a four-vehicle crash on Hawaii Belt Road near Papaikou, the Hawaii County Fire Department said. None of the injuries were life-threatening, the department said.

The crash was reported at 7:36 a.m. at mile marker 7. A semi-trailer truck, a pickup truck and two sedans were involved, the department said.

Two males and two females were taken to Hilo Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening. A fifth person, a man, was injured but declined medical treatment.

The road was closed for about an hour and traffic was detoured to Old Mamalahoa Highway. Police began an investigation.
