A 31-year-old man who was found guilty of robbing a woman in a stairwell at Wahiawa Shopping Center and then raping her was sentenced this morning to 40 years in prison.

Tyrone Smith received 20 years for first-degree sexual assault plus another 20 years for kidnapping. Smith was also sentenced to 10 years for robbery but that term will run at the same time as the 40 years.

Smith maintains it was not him who committed the crimes in September last year. His lawyer said he will appeal the convictions.
