Bareis to give tennis workshops at UH
Rosie Bareis, one of the best tennis players to come out of Hawaii, will raise money for the University of Hawaii program with doubles workshops on Saturday and Sunday at the UH courts.
Bareis played for UH from 1981 to ’84 and, with partner Rose Thomas Jones, accounted for more than 100 singles and doubles victories. The two were unbeaten in Hawaii from 1978 to ’87.
Bareis, a Kailua High graduate who has won 10 national doubles titles, is now director of tennis at The Claremont Hotel, Club and Spa in Berkeley, Calif.
Saturday’s clinic is for adults and Sunday’s is for kids ages of 8-18. Both run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the cost is $95, or $350 for groups of five. Players of all levels are welcome.
The workshops will focus on the high ball/low ball system, proper decision making, court positioning, poaching, primary doubles strokes, the three zones on a player’s body, lobs and zones of the tennis court.
Bareis will be joined by other former UH players.
