Hawaii senior Kanani Danielson is one of 10 student-athletes selected as finalists for the 2011 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award in collegiate volleyball.
To be eligible, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence — community, classroom, character and competition.
The finalists were chosen by a media committee from the list of 30 candidates announced in August. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to determine the winner.
Fans can vote on either the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award website (seniorclassaward.com/vote) or on the Facebook fan page (facebook.com/LowesSeniorCLASSAward). Voting ends Nov. 21.
‘Five-O’ episode after Wahine match
The University of Hawaii has nonconference matches against Notre Dame on Monday and Tuesday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
Fans are invited to stay after Monday’s match to watch the “Hawaii Five-0” episode filmed, in part, at the arena and other UH locations.
It will be shown on the arena’s four new HD-quality scoreboard video screens, which are 21 feet wide and 12 feet high. Concession stands and the Rainbowtique store will stay open during the show, which begins at 9 p.m.

Fan votes will be combined with media and D-I head coaches’ votes to determine the winner. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.
The winner will be announced during the 2011 NCAA Championship, Dec. 15-17 in San Antonio, Texas.
Other finalists are: Rachael Adams (Texas), Lane Carico (Miami, Fla.), Kaylie Gibson (North Carolina), Sarah Havel (Charleston), Kim Hill (Pepperdine), Kelsey Jewasko (Texas-San Antonio), Kelly Murphy (Florida), Tarah Murrey (Cal) and Darlene Ramdin (St. John’s, N.Y.).
The Rainbow Wahine play a Western Athletic Conference match today at Louisiana Tech at 2 p.m. UH (16-1) is trying to extend its 47-match conference winning streak, which is the best in the country. The Wahine took over first alone, at 6-0, with a win at New Mexico State on Wednesday.
Today’s match will be broadcast on 1420-AM. The Techsters (9-12, 0-5) have not beaten UH in 19 tries.
