Hawaii woman sentenced to 33 months for wire fraud
A woman authorities describe as the Hawaii sales arm of a Ponzi scheme that was run from behind prison walls is now serving her own prison sentence.
The FBI says Kapua Keolanui was sentenced to 33 months Friday.
She pleaded guilty to federal wire fraud charges last year, admitting she ran a fraudulent investment company known as “Paradise Trading.”
She admitted to sending part of the money to Perry Griggs, who was incarcerated on the mainland with prisoners from Hawaii. In August, Griggs was sentenced to 87 months for bilking millions from Hawaii inmates and their families.
Keolanui cooperated with the FBI in the investigation against Griggs.
