Bond-themed gala will benefit PACT
Parents and Children Together and Downtown Exchange Club of Honolulu are hosting a "Casino Royale" fundraiser from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Pacific Club.
The James Bond-themed event will benefit PACT’s child abuse prevention and treatment programs. Guests are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite Bond film character.

Learn how to write, publish kids’ books
Award-winning children’s book author Michael Elsohn Ross will conduct a two-day workshop on children’s literature and illustration at the University of Hawaii-Manoa.
Ross is a naturalist at Yosemite National Park in California and has written more than 40 children’s books on nature and science, including "Snug as a Bug," the "You Are the Scientist" series and "The Happy Camper Handbook," a guide to help kids prepare for camping. He has also written about art, including a book about Chiura Obata, a Japanese-American artist who was interned during World War II.
In his workshop, Ross will discuss styles and formats of books and will share writing and publishing tools. Participants will write and edit short pieces.
