Fire caused heavy damage Monday to two rooms in the corner of a three-bedroom, split-level house in Hawaii Kai, fire Capt. Terry Seelig said.
The blaze at 764 Hahaione St. was first reported at 3:10 p.m., and firefighters arrived within six minutes. About 20 firefighters brought the fire under control at 3:31 p.m. using a compressed air foam system, and extinguished it at 3:48 p.m.
The first firefighting company saw flames coming from the right corner where the bedrooms are located, Seelig said.
The fire caused an estimated $325,000 in damage to the house and $50,000 to its contents. The cause remains under investigation.
A mother and her teenage son were not home when the fire broke out, Seelig said. Red Cross is assisting the family.
