Hwang wins, withdraws because of Sunday conflict
Brigham Young-Hawaii’s Annie Hwang won the Division II singles title at Saturday’s USTA/ITA Small College Tournament in Mobile, Ala., then withdrew from the Small College Super Bowl portion of the event to honor BYUH’s commitment not to play on Sundays for religious reasons.
Hwang defeated Barbora Krtickova of Armstrong Atlantic 6-4, 6-4. Hwang and partner Sherry Liu won the doubles title Friday, but also withdrew from the Super Bowl portion because it was to be played Sunday. The Super Bowl winners advanced to next month’s USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships.
