Lenny overall North Shore winner
Maui’s Kai Lenny finished second in both the sprint slalom and distance standup paddleboard races at last weekend’s North Shore Paddle Challenge to win the overall title at Turtle Bay.
Zane Schweitzer won Saturday’s sprint slalom race, pulling away from Lenny after the first lap.
Andrew Logreco, who missed Saturday’s race due to his lifeguard duties, dominated Sunday’s 12-mile run from Turtle Bay to Haleiwa. He finished in 1 hour, 41 minutes and 15.2 seconds in the 12-6 SUP division, nearly 6 minutes ahead of Lenny.
Jerry Bess was the first to finish the distance course in the open SUP class in 1:39:48.2. In the SUP 14-foot class, Robert Teritehau won his division in 1:49:12.6; Kai Hai led the prone stock paddleboard finishers in 1:52.41; and Bert Charleton the prone open division in 1:59:45.3.
Rachel Bruntsch and Mariko Strickland tied for the overall women’s title, with Strickland winning the sprint slalom and Bruntsch the distance race. Fourteen-year-old Mo Freitas earned the overall youth award, finishing seventh in the sprint slalom and fourth in the distance race.
Finishing second in the overall standings was Kaeo Abby with Noa Ginnela third.
The format used last weekend now becomes the standard for the Stand Up World Series. The World Series has 17 qualifying events in 14 countries, culminating with the finale next October at Turtle Bay.
The series kicks off next month in Fiji at the Namotu World Paddle Challenge.

3 tennis teams finish in top 4 at nationals
Three tennis teams from the Hawaii Pacific Section finished in the top four at their respective USTA League National Championships.
The KRC2 men’s team from Kailua took second at the 4.0 Senior National Championships at Indian Wells (Calif.) Tennis Garden. Paul Tomar captained the team of Stephen Swartzendruber, John Endicott, Christopher Kelley, Mark Yasuhara, David Bello, Gene Ching and Steven Butala.
Penn Pals, a 3.5 women’s team from Honolulu, placed third at its championship played at the Jim Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz. Jo Ann Hirata captained the team of Kimberly Noe, Cherie Dang, Kazumi Fukuda, Gail Kahakui, Darise Ing, Liz Eder, Stephanie Tsuzaki, M. Wendy Wailehua Vause, Anela Carlos and Pam Wheat.
The 96797 Team 4.0 from Waipahu, a men’s 4.0 squad, finished fourth, also in Tucson. Team members were Benny Toledo, Lloyd Yamada, Eric Ganibe, Warlo Pasicaran, Rafael Serrano, Alex Ruiz, Ikona Freitas, Emmanuel Utera, and Ernesto Cuyno Tremor III.
Trapshooting for cure event Saturday
The Honolulu Trap Club will hold "Trapshooting for the Cure" at the Koko Head Shooting Complex on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m.
There will be about 25 shooters taking part in what is believed to be the first event of its kind in Hawaii.
Shooters will be using pink shotgun shells and shoot at 50 targets.
Members of the trap club have donated money and prizes for this event. All proceeds go to Rally For the Cure and Susan G. Komen of Hawaii.

Olympian Bryan Clay at Kids Fest
Olympic decathlon gold medalist Bryan Clay headlines Sunday’s seventh Kids Fest at Bishop Museum.
The event is free and offers fitness and health activities for children and families. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., with activities from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
