Man arrested in alleged Kalihi machete attack
Honolulu police arrested a 24-year-old Salt Lake man for attempted murder outside a Kalihi home Wednesday night.
Police said the suspect drove to a home in Kalihi on Eluwene Street just before 11 p.m. and met with a group of his friends.
The suspect confronted a 23-year-old man and accused him of stealing from him, police said.
Witness Dennis Erbano told Hawaii News Now the victim pulled out a machete and sliced the 23-year-old victim on his ear, face and collarbone.
Police arrested suspect in the Salt Lake area for attempted murder and a contempt of court charge. His criminal record includes a petty misdemeanor conviction for drunken driving in 2003.
The victim is at the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition.
