Wahiawa physician Dennis Ayon said in state court Thursday that the woman accusing him of hiring her to kill his ex-girlfriend was a difficult, high-maintenance patient who touched him inappropriately during appointments.
"She would say, ‘I love you, I love you, I love you. I’ve always loved you. Why didn’t you call me?’" he said.
He said the patient, Linda Moore, also invited him for dinners at her apartment "for her good cooking."
Ayon, 49, is on trial in Circuit Court on a charge of criminal solicitation to commit murder.
His lawyer said Moore made up the story of Ayon hiring her to kill his ex-girlfriend. Her motive, he said, was to get back at Ayon for rejecting her romantic advances.
Ayon said he never asked Moore to kill or beat up his ex-girlfriend.
He said Moore often made unreasonable requests for multiple ailments but refused treatment for schizophrenia. He said after his arrest last November, he learned that Moore has a history of going in and out of the Queen’s Medical Center’s psychiatric unit, sometimes three times in one month.
One of the prosecution’s exhibits is a Post-It note with the address of Ayon’s ex-girlfriend. Moore testified earlier that Ayon gave her the note so she would know where to find his ex-girlfriend.
Ayon said the handwriting looks like his, but he doesn’t remember writing it.
Contrary to the prosecution’s claim that Ayon was motivated to get rid of his ex-girlfriend for being the source of his legal troubles, Ayon said he was pleased with the outcome of his paternity case in state Family Court. He said he got joint legal custody with his ex-girlfriend of their now 5-year-old son and four days and three nights of visitation per week.
He said it was an honor and a privilege to pay the $900-per-month child support and actually paid more.
On the day Moore said Ayon solicited her in his Kilani Avenue office to kill his ex-girlfriend, Ayon said, Moore invited herself and a female friend to his house for dinner.
During the evening, he admitted, he ignored Moore to pay attention to her friend, and also met with the friend, who was living with Moore, the next day in downtown Honolulu.
The day after that, Moore met with Ayon’s ex-girlfriend, who called police.
Plainclothes officers of the Police Department’s Crime Reduction Unit in Wahiawa arrested Ayon at his office.
