Showers likely to stick around; snow possible on Hawaii isle
Lingering but diminishing showers for the islands and possible freezing rain of up to 2 inches on Hawaii island summits are forecast for today.
An upper-level low-pressure system will linger through the rest of this week, "coming back over us" the latter part of the week starting Thursday, said National Weather Service forecaster Norman Hui.
A flood watch for Hawaii County was canceled at 3:26 p.m. Tuesday.
A winter weather advisory for Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa through 6 a.m. today could mean up to 2 inches of snow showers or freezing rain.
There will be showers at times, especially for the windward sides of the islands.

Rescuers help 2 people aboard crippled sailboat
Maui County Fire Department and Coast Guard personnel helped two people whose sailboat took on water off Lanai on Monday night.
The boat began taking on water about a mile off Kaumalapau Harbor, Fire Department spokesman Lee Mainaga said.
The two people on board left the Dove, a 36-foot sailboat, and got onto a dinghy. The boaters called the Coast Guard and the Fire Department on a cellphone at about 11:34 p.m. Monday.
Fire personnel arrived on scene first, spotted the sailboat’s lights and monitored the situation until the Coast Guard arrived, Mainaga said.
The Coast Guard pumped water from the vessel, secured it so the passengers could reboard, then towed it to Manele Bay. It arrived at 3 a.m. and was docked for repairs.
Man who died while on hike is identified
A 59-year-old man who died from an apparent heart attack or stroke while hiking on Kauai has been identified as William Rollin Curry of Lawai.
Kauai police said Curry was hiking on the Nounou Mountain trail, also known as the Sleeping Giant, at about 2 p.m. Saturday when he apparently suffered a massive heart attack or stroke.
Fire rescue personnel flew to the summit aboard the Air 1 helicopter. Rescue personnel performed CPR on Curry and took him to Wailua Houselots park.
Paramedics took him to Wilcox Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police said there were no signs of foul play. Preliminary autopsy results indicate Curry suffered a possible heart attack, a county spokeswoman said.
