Falun Gong members protest at convention center
Honolulu police estimate that about 180 members of the Falun Gong religious movement ringed the Hawai’i Convention Center this morning, holding signs urging China to stop persecuting its members.
Police monitored, but did not interfere with the peaceful protest.
The Falun Gong began protesting at Ala Moana Park Wednesday. The protesters, many who flew in to Honolulu from Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and the U.S. mainland, hope to make their point to the governments of the 21 economies represented at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation meetings.
Nearly all have paid their way to Honolulu from Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and the U.S. mainland to raise awareness of the issue of abuse of Falun Gong members.
