Police continue search for Hawaii State Hospital escapee

[ AD HAS BEEN REMOVED FROM THIS STORY ]

A patient of the state psychiatric hospital in Kaneohe is still missing today after escaping from the facility about 6 p.m. Thursday, police said.

Robert Pacheco, 30, left the Hawaii State Hospital between 6:40 and 8:25 p.m., police said. Officers searched the surrounding area, but couldn’t find him.

Pacheco was in a gym at the hospital when he got out, and the hospital reported an extra set of clothes may be missing, police said. Details on how Pacheco escaped were not available.

A state Department of Health spokeswoman confirmed the hospital had an escape, but could not provide further details, citing federal privacy laws for hospital patients. The spokeswoman could not say whether Pacheco poses a threat, and police said health officials did not provide that information.

Police described Pacheco as 5 feet 7 inches tall, 205 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a blue dress shirt and brown long pants.
