Forecast calls for sunny skies for APEC weekend

The band of showers that moved over the islands and urban Honolulu today should pass by this afternoon, clearing the way for sunny weather for this weekend’s APEC Leader’s Meeting.

"Oahu is definitely going to have better weather by this afternoon," said Peter Donaldson, forecaster for the National Weather Service Honolulu office. "It will be slower to clear on the Big Island because they are farthest out and because there is an upper-level low that is affecting them more than the other islands."

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has canceled a gale warning, but a small craft advisory remained in effect because of strong winds generating rough ocean conditions.

A high surf advisory also remains in effect for east-facing shores until 6 p.m. Sunday in anticipation of a north-northeast swell that is expected to arrive today.
