Fujikawa takes fifth place at tourney
Moanalua High School graduate Tadd Fujikawa finished fifth at the Carolina Winter Series stop that ended Thursday at Brunswick Plantation in Calabash, N.C. The series is part of the NGA Pro Golf Tour.
Fujikawa closed with a 3-over-par 75 to finish at 216, four shots out of first. He won $1,250.
Fujikawa, 20, turned pro in 2007. He has finished in the top 35 twice at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
Rainbow Wahine softball team signs 4
Mid-Pacific Institute standout Keiki Carlos was among four players to sign with the University of Hawaii softball team during the early signing period.
Carlos, last season’s Star-Advertiser All-State pitcher of the year, submitted a national letter of intent for the 2013 season, along with California high school seniors Kristina Akiona, Loie Kesterson and Alyssa Villalpando.
Carlos is projected as a pitcher/third baseman for the Rainbow Wahine. UH also added Kesterson, a left-hander, to the pitching staff for 2013.
Akiona hit .292 last season as a shortstop/third baseman at Pacifica High School.
Villalpando is a three-time all-league selection as a catcher/utility player from Los Altos High School. She hit .375 with 12 RBIs last season.
Hagemeyer makes academic district team
Brigham Young-Hawaii volleyball player Lauren Hagemeyer was chosen to the Capital One Academic All-District Team for District 8 of NCAA Division II.
Hagemeyer, an exercise and sport science major, has a 3.96 grade-point average.
She was a Pacific West Conference first-team selection and all-academic choice last season.
Hawaii Pacific signs 3 for volleyball
Three players from Southern California signed national letters of intent to play volleyball for Hawaii Pacific in 2012, the school announced Thursday.
The signees are Samantha Rummans, a 6-foot-1 outside hitter from Palos Verdes High; Amanda Moriarty, a 5-10 outside hitter from Dos Pueblos High; and Sophia Blaszyk, a 6-0 middle from Poway High.
