President Barack Obama played golf Monday afternoon at the Mamala Bay Golf Course at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam with boyhood pal Robert "Bobby" Titcomb, who pleaded no contest to soliciting a prostitute earlier this year.
Titcomb, an Oahu resident, was arrested in April and pleaded no contest in May to soliciting a prostitute in Honolulu. He was fined $500, but a court agreement allowed the charge to be stricken from his record last month because he stayed out of trouble for six months.
"The president has been a friend of Bobby’s since childhood — and remains loyal to him as Bobby confronts some difficult challenges in his personal life," White House press secretary Jay Carney said.
Titcomb attended Punahou School with Obama in the 1970s. The two have often played golf and basketball and headed to the beach together when the president has been back in the islands on vacation.
Titcomb was present when Obama scattered his grandmother’s ashes off Oahu in 2008.
The president’s foursome also included White House trip director Marvin Nicolson and White House advance man Pete Selfridge.
The men arrived at Hickam in the early afternoon after the president’s fundraiser at the Aulani Disney Resort at Ko Olina.
