Seven of eight teams of the 2012 Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic are expected to be announced today.
They are Arizona, San Diego State, Miami (Fla.), Mississippi, Texas Tech, San Francisco and host Hawaii.
The holiday tournament at the Stan Sheriff Center, owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television, will again have the majority of its 12 games broadcast on ESPN networks.
Arizona, currently ranked No. 15, made the NCAA Elite Eight in the 2010-11 season. SDSU was knocked out in the Sweet 16. Miami and Mississippi earned National Invitation Tournament berths, and USF knocked out UH in the second round of last season’s CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament.
"In the fourth year, we’re continuing to grow the tournament," said the event’s executive director, David Matlin. "Getting teams from the Pac-12, ACC, SEC, coupled with teams that made the Elite Eight and Sweet 16, is great for us."
One team remains to fill out the field.
The tournament will be held in late December around the Christmas holiday, though specific dates haven’t been announced.
