The state plans to briefly close the Diamond Head summit trail for improvements today.

State parks personnel from the Department of Land and Natural Resources will close the trail at 1 p.m. Hikers may begin trekking until noon, but park personnel will escort people down an hour later. 

The trail is due to reopen as usual Wednesday at 6 a.m.

The state is closing the trail so hikers won’t be present when a helicopter flies in concrete for repairs to a narrow ledge area at the summit. The state says the repairs will improve hiker flow and overall safety.
