No tsunami expected from strong quake in Bolivia
A strong earthquake has shaken central Bolivia but did not cause a Pacific-wide tsunami, officials said this morning.
The quake, with a 6.2 magnitude according to the U.S. Geological Survey, struck at 2:48 p.m. at the epicenter (8:48 a.m. Hawaii time), and was centered about 114 miles south-southeast of Santa Ana, Bolivia.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Ewa Beach said the quake does not pose a tsunami threat to Hawaii. The center initially estimated the magnitude as 6.7, but the USGS later estimated it at 6.2.
