Man arrested for attempted murder in arson case
Honolulu police arrested a 25-year-old man, who gave no local address, for attempted murder in connection with an apparent arson case at a home in Foster Village.
Police said the suspect was distraught over his relationship with a girlfriend, who lived at the home.
Fire investigators determined that the fire at the 2-story home on Ukali Street Monday night was intentionally set, said fire Capt. Terry Seelig.
The fire started at about 11:30 p.m. in a downstairs bedroom and was confined to the bedroom, Seelig said. Two residents of the home used a garden hose to help contain the flames. Three people were home when the fire broke out. All escaped uninjured.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze at 11:59 p.m., Seelig said. It caused about $6,000 damage.
Seelig said the home had six bedrooms and tenants rented the rooms.
