Catricala earns honor from Mariners
Former University of Hawaii third baseman Vinnie Catricala was named the Seattle Mariners’ minor league player of the year on Monday.
Catricala, drafted in the 10th round of the 2009 MLB First-Year Player Draft, hit .349 with 25 homers and 106 RBIs in Class A and Double-A.
He finished second among full-season minor leaguers in extra-base hits (77) and third in hits (182) and doubles (48).
Catricala was named to the California League All-Star team with High Desert in Class A before he was promoted to Double-A Jackson on June 30.
In Double-A, he hit .347 with 11 homers and 45 RBIs in 62 games.
