Nominations sought for state water commissioners

The state water commission is looking for nominations for people to serve on the body that oversees implementation and administration of the Hawaii’s water code.

The commission said Tuesday it has two positions to fill. One position is currently vacant. The other will open in July.

A nominating committee will screen the applicants and send the names of at least three people for each open position to Gov. Neil Abercrombie.

Nominees should have experience with Hawaiian water rights. Members serve without pay but are reimbursed for expenses.

The commission has seven members, including five people appointed by the governor.

The remaining two positions are filled by the chair of the Board of Land and Natural Resources and the Department of Health director.
