Names of Kauai victims and alleged attacker released

WAIMEA, Hawaii  – Police have released the names of a woman stabbed to death and her alleged attacker who was later shot and killed by an officer.

Police say 21-year-old Shendon Chandler-Taniguchi fatally stabbed 68-year-old Edita Padamada Friday in Waimea Valley.

He also allegedly attacked his 83-year-old grandfather Anthony Chandler, 63-year-old James Rick and 50-year-old Julie Bergseid. The three surviving victims were taken to Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital.

Police say the officer told Chandler-Taniguchi to stop, but he allegedly continued to attack and turned on to the officer. The officer then shot him.

Chandler-Taniguchi then attempted to run away but collapsed. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
