UHH rolls past BYUH in women’s hoops
Elise Spain scored nine points with six rebounds to lead Hawaii-Hilo to a 58-42 women’s basketball victory over Brigham Young-Hawaii on Tuesday in Hilo.
Hillary Hurley added eight rebounds for the Vulcans (1-4, 1-0).
Shayla Washington scored a game-high 12 points for the Seasiders (0-5, 0-1).
Titans to play for Pop Warner title
The Kapolei Titans became the first team from Oahu to advance to the Pop Warner Pee Wee Division II Super Bowl Championship when they defeated the College Station Raiders of Texas in the semifinals, 38-14, on Tuesday.
The Titans will play for the national title Friday against the Jensen Beach (Fla.) Falcons at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Fla. (5:30 a.m. Hawaii time, ESPN3).
Kapolei was third in the Oahu Pop Warner season before advancing through the playoffs. The team defeated the Puna Panthers in Kailua-Kona to earn the state championship.
On Saturday, the Titans defeated Mount Hope (R.I.) 16-0 in a quarterfinal contest.
The only other Hawaii team to make it to the national championship was the Lihue Patriots in 2005, and they won the title.
