Delicate gemstone necklace adorns moms with love
Wire-wrapped semiprecious gemstones strung on a delicate sterling-silver chain can be used to represent the birthstones of children and other loved ones, making this a charming gift for moms and grandmothers. Three petite freshwater pearls and leaf charms hand-stamped with initials accent the necklaces, made locally by Stacy Cheng Suzuki. They sell for $80 to $100 at www.stacysdesigns88.etsy.com or email stacysdesigns88@gmail.com.

Show ‘Angry Birds’ love at the mall or on your tree
With countless apps born every day, the “Angry Birds” game is defying the odds by continuing to grow in popularity two years after its release. The avian-flinging puzzle game is so ubiquitous, Barnes & Noble is hosting a National Angry Birds Day event at stores Sunday (11 a.m., Kahala Mall, 737-3323). Giving the game a local spin, ornament maker Maui Christmas has created a “Huhu Bird” painted on a small ipu for $10 plus shipping. Order this or many other styles at www.mauichristmas.com. (Order style “ANNA-3” to get the bird; though the product pulls up a Santa ornament on the website, the code now refers to the bird ornament.) Or, call 800-777-6284 or email santa@mauichristmas.com.

Pillow covers highlight Hawaiian culture
Maui artist Barbara Chung of Palapala Designs incorporates her original Hawaiian blockprints on pillow covers that double as works of art. The designs, which include ulu, kalo, kukui and hula implements, are framed with fabric trim to create a distinctive piece of home decor. The covers fit standard 18-by-18-inch pillows. I found this one ($68) at Native Books/Na Mea Hawai‘i at Ward Warehouse to complement my prized vintage koa armchair, but they also are sold at museum shops and boutiques, such as Native Intelligence on Market Street in Wailuku, Maui; or email palapaladesigns@gmail.com.
