Actress, singer and soon-to-be-unveiled Playboy model Lindsay Lohan claims to have lost $10,000 when her purse was allegedly stolen at a house party in predominantly Mormon Laie Saturday night.

Honolulu police acknowledged that Lohan filed a police report on the theft but could not confirm the amount of money taken.

Lohan is reportedly in Hawaii with her sister Ali to avoid the expected media crush when her highly publicized nude spread in Playboy hits the newsstands this week. (The issue is being released earlier than scheduled due to images leaked on the Internet.)

Lohan, 25, enjoyed enormous popularity as an actress in several Disney films and TV productions but in recent years has become better known for her numerous brushes with the law and her ongoing issues with drug and alcohol abuse.

According to TMZ, Lohan left her $5,000 purse — containing cash, a passport, and a probation document allowing her to travel outside of California — inside a jeep parked outside the party. When Lohan returned to the vehicle, the purse was missing.

“It was the most bizarre thing and it was bizarre on so many levels,” said Laie resident Clark Cahoon, who was at the party. “If you’re looking for somewhere to go that doesn’t have drugs or alcohol, you won’t find anything more wholesome than a party at a Mormon home. The hardest thing you’ll find is maybe an energy drink. So, it was bizarre when she showed up and it just got more bizarre from there.”

Cahoon said the party started around 9 p.m. as an acoustic music gathering, with dancing starting around 10:30 p.m. Lohan arrived around 11 p.m., brought by a mutual friend who met her at the Turtle Bay Resort.

“Everybody knew who she was but they tried to give her some space,” Cahoon said. “Still, it was the elephant in the room.”

Cahoon left just before the party broke up around midnight. That was when Lohan reportedly discovered her purse missing and questioned first people at the party then others in the surrounding neighborhood.

National gossip sites reported the purse was eventually returned, sans cash, by “a suspicious local.”

Cahoon said he believes whoever took the purse was not associated with the party.

Lohan is scheduled for a progress report hearing in Los Angeles on Wednesday.
