Firefighters battled a blaze at a four-bedroom home in Kailua earlier today.
A fire destroyed a Kailua home today, leaving a family of four homeless and killing the pet dog, a Honolulu Fire Department spokesman said.
The fire began at 12:24 p.m. and quickly engulfed the four-bedroom home on Kaipii Street, said Honolulu Fire Capt. Terry Seelig.
No one was home when the fire started, and the Red Cross is helping the family, Seelig said.
A fire investigator is trying to determine the cause of the fire, which caused about $400,000 in damage.
